Lambda was started in late 1977 in response to the Briggs Initiative, an anti-LGBTQ initiative to bar gay and lesbian teachers from the classroom.
After Briggs was defeated, Lambda continued as a political voice for the community, recognized by both the California Democratic Party and the California Democratic Council. Soon after its inception, Lambda received the award for the largest growing club in California.
Over the years, Lambda’s work in campaigns made its endorsement a sought-after asset. We strive to continue to be a voice for the LGBTQ community, a proponent of of human and civil rights for all minorities, and an advocate for progressive issues.
